Investigation of RFID in Tracking Vehicles
Details
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is evolving as a major technology for the identification and tracking of goods and assets around the world. Because of the advantages of the RFID system, it is being implemented in a variety of important applications, including the tracking of vehicles. But there is a need to discover an RFID system to track vehicles, since existing systems are undependable. Considering the drawbacks of other tracking systems, an existing RFID system must be tested and identified for the vehicle tracking application. Experiments were performed with three different types of RFID systems (SIRIT, SAVI and RF code), the success rate of the RF code system in reading the tag was better compared to the SIRIT and SAVI systems. Experiments were conducted to study the adverse effect of licence plate metal surface, then the spacers (cardboard, rubber and plastic) were placed between the tag and license plate to reduce that effect and later on the RFID system was tested in stationary and motion condition as well. Benefit-cost analysis of RFID vs. non-RFID systems was also performed at the end of the research.
