Is Benjamin's vertical incision superior over Keen's Approach?
Details
In this book I have discussed about a prospective split mouth study which evaluates and compares two different intraoral incisions for zygomaticomaxillary complex fractures on the basis of access and visualization of zygomatic buttress, buccal fat pad interference during surgery and closure, difficulty in suturing and post operative paresthesia. In all 13 patients were involved in this study, who had bilateral ZMC fractures and needed to undergo open reduction and internal fixation at zygomatic buttress is mandatory. The sides were randomly divided by SNOSE method. At site A Conventional horizontal incision (Keen's approach) was used while at site B Benjamin's vertical incision was used. Based on this study we conclude that Benjamin's vertical incision is more beneficial for higher level fractures while Conventional Keen's approach useful when pyriform aperture area is involved in fracture line.
