Issues in Yoruba Lexical Categorization
Details
About the Book. This book focuses on the various issues in lexical categorization in the standard form of Yorùbá language with an attempt to resolving the many contradictions on Yorùbá lexical categorization. The work was rested on the theory of Government and Binding (GB) outlined in Chomsky (1981) and later revisions through the mid 1990s. Some conditions such as: a lexical class must not share the morphological features (structure and derivational process) with any other class; the syntactic behavior of a class must be distinct from the syntactic behavior of another class, etc., were suggested for establishing a lexical class in the standard Yorùbá which are recommended for use in working on lexical categorization of any other language. Theoretical linguists, pedagogical grammarians and classroom teachers of language will benefit immensely from this book.
