High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Italian irredentism was an Italian nationalist and Irredentist movement that aimed to complete the unification of all ethnically Italian peoples. Originally, the movement promoted the annexation by Italy of territories inhabited by an Italian majority but retained by the Austrian Empire after 1866. These included the Trentino and Trieste, but even other areas with South Slav population such as Istria, Gorizia, and Dalmatia. The ideology was then extended to the city of Fiume, Corsica, the Ionian islands, the Mediterranean island of Malta, Nice, and Ticino.
