Japan's Development Assistance

Once the world's largest ODA provider, contemporary Japan seems much less visible in international development. However, this book demonstrates that Japan, with its own aid philosophy, experiences, and models of aid, has ample lessons to offer to the international community as the latter seeks new paradigms of development cooperation.

The book is no doubt an important intellectual contribution and a substantial addition to the existing studies on Japan's foreign assistance. I hope that the book will be widely read by researchers, policymakers, and practitioners in the related field. I also trust that it will trigger future research on Japanese ODA including the analysis of unique contributions that Japan can make to help build self-reliant economies in the developing regions in the SDGs era.
