Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The rise of Jat power in India, which started at the 1669 Jat uprising as a resistance against narrow and over-centralised despotic regime of Aurangzeb under the leadership of Gokula, resulted ultimately into the formation of Jat State in Bharatpur. In the early 17th century, the farmers of Bharatpur were being terrorized and ill treated by the Mughals. At this point of time first Raja Ram Jat and later Churaman, powerful Jat chieftains rose against this tyranny. The Jats once again came together under the leadership of Badan Singh, and controlled a vast expanse of territory. The Jat rebellion in 1669 originally begun due to economic and administrative factors but it later on certainly assumed political character or anti-imperialist character. The Jats wanted to establish an independent state of their own. Their dream became true when the Mughal emperor recognized Badan Singh and the title of Raja (king) was conferred upon him in 1724.
