High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Jayson Williams (born February 22, 1968) is an American former professional basketball player. Standing 6 feet, 10 inches tall, he played for the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Nets of the National Basketball Association. In 2010, he pled guilty to assault in the shooting death of a limousine driver. Williams was born in Ritter, South Carolina; he is of Polish, Italian and African- American descent. His father, Elijah Joshua Williams, died of a stroke aged 76 in November 2009. His mother is Barbara. Williams played high school basketball for Christ The King RHS in New York City and college basketball for the St. John's University. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1990, and was selected by the Phoenix Suns NBA team in the first round (21st pick overall) of the 1990 NBA Draft.
