Jongo the Musical Concepts Through Its Practice in the Piquete Group

Singer and songwriter Ossimar Heleno Batista (Piquete) has a long musical career, from his experiences in dance bands in the 1980s to his current performances as a solo musician in Ribeirão Preto and the surrounding region. The nickname 'Piquete' is a reference to the artist's hometown in the Paraíba Valley, in the interior of the state of São Paulo. He was a member of the group 'Gafieira de Luxo' led by musicians Mauro Zacharias and Paulo Lakimé, accompanying renowned artists on the Brazilian music scene such as drummer, composer and singer Wilson das Neves. As well as performing his own works, the musician works as an arranger and music producer for young talents, including his work with singer, composer and saxophonist Andrei Furlan in his first authorial show. In his recent authorial project, Piquete is researching the composition of songs about important historical facts in Brazil, which are due to be released in 2019.
