Kazakhstan in the Eurasian Union: New Opportunities and Prospects

This book is devoted to issues related to Kazakhstan's accession to and functioning within the Eurasian Economic Union. It presents an analysis of recent events in the Eurasian region that have led to adjustments in the medium-term economic programmes of the EAEU member states. It examines the positive factors of Kazakhstan's participation in the EAEU and new prospects for development. It also describes the possible risks and negative consequences of regional economic integration for the republic in the context of the US and EU sanctions war against Russia. It highlights the impact of external shocks on the economies of Kazakhstan and Russia, such as falling oil prices and sanctions. An analysis of the macroeconomic situation in Kazakhstan and Russia in 2014 and the first half of 2015 is presented. The new economic policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nurly Zhol, aimed at implementing a new economic policy based on the formation of a single market and the development of an effective infrastructure based on the hub principle, is characterised. The assessments of the economic situation in Kazakhstan by international financial institutions are reviewed and their recommendations for improving the situation are presented.
