Kleinasien, Alexandria und Rom unterbrachen seine beschauliche Gelehrtenexistenz in der Provinz. Er war ein äußerst produktiver Schriftsteller, der neben den berühmten Biographien Schriften populärphilosophischen Inhalts und zu Fragen des alltäglichen Lebens verfasste.
