Details

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are one of the major health and development challenges of the 21st century, in terms of both the human suffering they cause and the harm they inflict on the socioeconomic fabric of countries, particularly low- and middle income. Raised blood pressure (RBP) is a major cardiovascular (CV) risk factor. According to the seventh report of joint national committee prevention, detection, evaluation, and treatment of high blood pressure (JNC7) HTN is defined as a systolic blood pressure 140 and a diastolic blood pressure 90 based on the average of two or more accurate measurement taken during two or more contact with health care provider. But, it is classified as pre-hypertension which is 120-139 systolic and diastolic 80-89, stage-I systolic of 140-159 and diastolic 90-99, stage II systolic of 160 and diastolic 100. Every year HTN is responsible for at least 45% of deaths due to heart disease, and 51% of deaths due to stroke. By 2025 the projected number of people with hypertension is expected to rise by 60% and reach 1.56 billion people.
