Details

This book is a continuation of Part 1 exploring the system of clause complexes in the genre of chemistry textbooks. Whereas Part 1 confines itself to the explication of elaboration, extension, enhancement and projection relations from Systemic Functional Linguistics, Part 2 provides a detailed and comprehensive clause complex analysis on the raw data used for the study (Appendix A), an index to the clause complex analysis (Appendix B) and an overview of the overall frequencies of clauses forming complexes and simplexes in the data (Appendix C). Part 2 may be used as a guide to those interested in a detailed manual-heuristic-grounded theory-document analysis-qualitative approach which is derived from the theory itself. It is hoped that the findings will make textbook knowledge more accessible to learners and reduce their sense of alienation. This book (Part 2)and its companion (Part 1)are well-suited for practitioners and researchers in the field of academic and scientific writing, ESL/EFL teaching and learning and LSP and professional communication.
