The decades around 1100 were a time of radical and conflicted transformation in Europe. The essays in this volume examine various regional conflicts, reflecting on their connections to the broader lines of development of the period, thereby creating a new, European view of the changes, one that extends beyond established research paradigms (e.g. the Investiture Controversy, communalization, and feudal society).
