Lactational stages on blood and biochemical profiles in goat

Scientific goat improvement program is important to enhance the milk production in caprine species. Intensive and selective breeding programme with high milk production is associated with high incidence of subclinical nutritional and metabolic disorders in goat. Diagnosis and prompt therapeutic management of subclinical disorders are essential to maintain the milk production and control infertility and ultimately higher profit in goat industry. Relationship between heamatological and blood metabolic profiles and stages of lactation in dairy goat breeds is existed. Erythrocyte index is increased and leucocyte index is decreased as lactation stage advanced. Biochemical profiles are increased and liver functional enzymes are decreased as stage of lactation progressed. Triiodo thyronine, Thyroxine are increased and prolactin and cortisol are decreased as stages of lactation are progressed. Antioxidant level is increased and oxidative stress marker is decreased as stage advanced. This book will be useful to the scientists working in the goat production and physiology, goat farmers, animal breeders or commercial goat industries.
