Laminitis in horses

The lack of understanding of the pathophysiology of laminitis limits action in the prevention and treatment of this disease. The mechanisms involved in this pathogenesis include multifactorial causes: ischaemic, enzymatic, inflammatory, endocrine, metabolic and traumatic. In addition to a detailed and illustrated description of the disease, this publication also includes the forms of presentation in animals, approaches to diagnosis, control, prevention, treatment and alternative therapies.

The authors have a degree in Veterinary Medicine and a postgraduate qualification in the field. They work in teaching and research at the Federal University of Pelotas, with experience in large animal clinic, surgery and reproduction.
