Laparoscopic Appendicectomy in Chronic Right Lower Quadrant Pain

Chronic right lower quadrant pain has many causes. Appenidicitis is an important one of them. Although many medical professionals believe that chronic appendicitis does not exist, there is clinical as well histopathological evidence to counter this belief. We, in our institute tried to determine if laparoscopic appenidcectomy could relieve the chronic abdominal pain in these patients, in whom we've not been able to reach a specific diagnosis even after extensive investigations. We found that in a majority of these patients, appenidcectomy relieved their pain. Also, the histopathology of the removed appenidices was suggestive of chronic inflammatory changes.
