Among the edible marine crustaceans of India, crabs ranks third by virtue of their importance as an esteemed gourmet and the value of fishery they support. Hatchery technology is available for shrimps and prawns. But commercial hatchery is right now not available for crabs in general and swimming crabs in particular. In this book fishery of ovigerous crabs, embryonic development, salinity requirement for larval rearing and seed production technology is detailed for the benefit of scientists and farmers.

Dr. P. Soundarapandian has completed Ph.D in Centre of Advanced study in Marine Biology, Annamalai University, Parangipettai, Tamil Nadu, India in 1996. Subsequently he joined as UGC Research Associate and then as Assistant Professor in the above centre. In 2007, he was promoted as Associate professor.
