Latex agglutination test for diagnosis of trypanosomosis in animals

Trypanosomosis, a haemoprotozoan disease, causes a serious condition in variety of domestic and wild animals known as 'surra'. Trypanosoma evansi which is a vector transmitted most pathogenic trypanosome affecting wide range of host which is globally distributed. Animal trypanosomosis presents special problems with regard to its definitive diagnosis. Though trypanosomes have been studied more than a hundred years, there is still a dearth in accurate diagnostic tests with high sensitivity and specificity. The conventional diagnostic methods are no longer sensitive missing more than 80% of the infection. This book, therefore, provides a new horizon in the field of advanced diagnosis to detect trypanosomosis which is rapid, cost effective and field adaptable. The contents of book include a brief introduction along with an elaborate review of the research carried out till date regarding the diagnosis of trypanosomosis with special emphasis on development and usage of latex agglutination test,a pen side test. The analysis should help shed some light on newer diagnostic techniques which are especially useful to Veterinary and Medical professionals, research scholars, scientists& students

Dr.Shyma did BVSc.& AH from KAU,Thrissur, MVSc from CCSHAU,Hisar and PhD from IVRI,Izatnagar. She has received the esteemed Dr.J.P.Dubey Young Scientist award for research in acaricide resistance and prestigious Dr.V.S.Alwar Memorial award for publication on trypanosomosis.
