Leadership, Politics, and National Development:
Details
This book discusses how Nigerian political leaders have mismanaged the country's resources with their style of leadership which is noticed in every segment of the country. These have created inequality in the distributions of national wealth and have led to injustice, hatred, anger, terrorism, ethnocentrism, religious bigotry in the country. The ruling class has no respect for to rule of law, separation of powers, and the principle of the system of checks and balances. The legislature and judiciary are not independent, responsible, and responsive to the people's yearnings. It is generally agreed that no form of government has given her citizens the power to checkmate her public office holders like democracy - to impeach, to recall, and prosecute public officials. In the case of Nigeria, this has failed, because the majority of Nigerians don't know government policies, no public transparency, accountability, and respect for the constitution. Nigeria's constitutional democracy is more of quasi-decree rules; it has failed to checkmate public office holders and improve the standard of living.
