Leseprobe
In recent years, many of my friends have asked me to teach them how to knit. Being an expat, I now live far away from most of them, so I decided to make a knitting course they could use.My mother taught me to knit at a very early age. For the first few years, I would knit small squares to be used as doll blankets. My mother would oversee my work and I could run to her with every dropped stitch for immediate repair.Adults, however, rarely have that luxury, and knitting miniature doll blankets is unlikely to interest them. Many people choose a garter stitch scarf for their very first project, which is not ideal either: the first half is often full of mistakes, and has a different tension to the second. So, I needed to find an answer to a series of questions:

  • How to teach an adult to knit, without having them knit endless useless samples before starting on a "real" project?
  • What kind of project will look good while a beginner finds their bearings?
  • How do you cover all the basic techniques in one project? The modular structure of a patchwork blanket was the answer to these questions. Each square is just the right size for a beginner. It won't get boring, as a new technique is introduced with every square. The squares are also small enough to discard if first attempts are not good enough to include in the final project. In this 2-in-1 knitting course and blanket pattern, I'll show you the techniques I use the most - but they are not the only way to do things. I encourage you to explore different techniques as you progress: observe other knitters, and use the internet and social media to find methods that suit you.I hope you have as much fun knitting your blanket as I had designing it!
