Learning Driving Patterns

In this book a method for learning driving patterns and their use in supporting driving navigation tasks is described. Driving patterns are sequences of events in the traffic system repeating over time. A framework of the driving warning system based on the learned driving patterns is developed. The learning part of the system builds and maintains the model of the traffic system. The system predicts the most likely future events. The predicted event is compared with the actual event from sensors and if/when driver s behaviour becomes significantly different from usual , appropriate warnings may be generated.

Dejan Mitrovic holds a BE(Elec) and MSc from the University of Nis, Yugoslavia and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. He has authored more than 30 research papers published in international journals and conferences. Currently, he works at Trimble Navigation, where he develops GPS/GIS software solutions.
