Learning French in Nigeria: Challenges and Opportunities

Apparently, Yoruba-speaking learners in Nigeria face enormous difficulties when learning French, especially in exercises involving the translation of idiomatic expressions. This book therefore presents some appropriate strategies that learners can use to successfully translate idiomatic expressions, such as cultural substitution, paraphrasing, explanation, etc. Finally, the work suggests the necessary support from the Nigerian government with regard to French language learning in the country. Eunice Modupe FABIYI has been a lecturer in the Department of French at Adeyemi Federal University of Education Ondo, Ondo State, Nigeria since 2002.
