LEGAL-ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS OF SOLID URBAN WASTE MANAGEMENT

The present research aimed to analyze the management of solid waste, especially regarding the final disposal, in municipalities of the hinterland of Paraiba that border São João do Rio do Peixe, and its suitability to PNRS. Besides: approaching the historical evolution of environmental issues; listing the legal discipline of solid waste management; verifying if the management of solid waste in the researched cities, regarding the final disposal, is in accordance with the legislation; and, finally, identifying challenges and perspectives of the municipalities that still use the dump to adapt to the PNRS. The methodology used was a deductive approach, qualitative in nature, exploratory, descriptive and historical procedure, when a field study was done about the management of solid waste, focusing on the final disposal of waste in dumps, in the municipality of São João do Rio do Peixe and its five neighboring municipalities that make up the metropolitan region of Cajazeiras-PB. As well as the application of a questionnaire to environmental secretaries of the municipalities that use dumps, based on art. 1, section VII of Resolution 510/2006 of the CNS.
