In "Legal Institutions and Social Justice in Africa" Capaina discusses the complex relationship between prison practices and social reintegration, taking a critical look at the prison system in Mozambique. Based on the theories of renowned authors, the book analyses the contrast between the values of the "society of captives" and the "free society", highlighting how this opposition hinders the resocialization of inmates after they have served their sentences.The author reflects on the challenges faced by inmates, such as the internalization of norms that often encourage violent and unethical behaviour, to the detriment of social norms. With an approach that integrates social justice and ethics, Capaina promotes reflections on the need for reforms in the prison system, emphasizing the importance of equal opportunities and justice for all citizens.This book opens up a space to contribute to a constructive dialog on the transformation of institutions and the promotion of a fairer and more inclusive society.
