High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Leges Regiae were laws that were put into place by the rex (king) in ancient Rome. During the 19th century scholars doubted the authenticity of information on the lex regia. By the beginning of the 20th century many were sure they never existed. More recently there has been a change of attitude and some scholars after a far more careful analysis of the sources have acknowledged the probability that these laws did indeed originate during the period of the kings of Rome, and this has become the consensus view. Even though the sources have been rewritten or enriched in the course of time by embedded interpolations and glosses they are judged reliable. This fact has drawn new attention to the subject and new research has led to the discovery of previously unknown quotations. Lastly some changes have been made about the attribution to the various traditional kings.
