Leucena as an alternative ingredient in tambaqui feed

The Amazon region has many favorable characteristics for the development of fish farming, notably the abundant availability of water, the population's culture of consuming fish, the favorable climate, and the number of native fish species with potential for cultivation. However, the high cost of feed hinders the growth of fish farming in this region. This is because the ingredients used in the production of fish feed are imported from other regions, making feed more expensive. An alternative to solve this problem is to use regional ingredients to make feed. This book describes the feasibility of using leucena in tambaqui feed. Studies such as this contribute to the development of economically viable, environmentally friendly, and socially just fish farming in the Amazon.

Geraldo Pereira Junior holds a PhD in Biotechnology from the Federal University of Amazonas - UFAM (2011), a Master's degree in Agriculture in the Humid Tropics from the National Institute for Amazonian Research - INPA (2007), and a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science from the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRRJ (2004).
