Erste Kurzgeschichten an der Highschool, erster Lebensunterhalt als Comictexterin, erster Welterfolg 1950 mit ihrem Romanerstling "Zwei Fremde im Zug", dessen Verfilmung durch Alfred Hitchcock sie über Nacht weltberühmt machte.
