This book is the result of the Women's Socio-Economic Empowerment Program (Italian acronym: PESED), an international initiative to promote gender equality. On the one hand, it seeks to present in detail the importance and role of women in business in one of the productive sectors that constitutes one of Mozambique's potentials, the agricultural sector. On the other hand, it presents the persistent barriers that women face, ranging from the social, economic and even cultural, which are characterized by limited access to financial services, difficulty in reconciling business and domestic work, access to information, informality, which do not allow them to strengthen their participation in the economic sphere.

The book was designed by José Amilton Joaquim, Nelson Maria Rosário and Joana Manuel Matusse Joaquim, lecturers at UEM-ESNEC, doctoral students in Economic and Organizational Sociology; Rural Development and Development Studies, respectively. They also worked with ESNEC students Cadúcia Eliseu, Nelson Mula and Quitéria Macuácua.
