Living skyline: Impact of condominium development in Colombo
Details
Rapid industrialization and urbanization that has not been supported by an increase in housing has made housing has created a severe problem in the city.Government economic strategy that reduces the area allotted for housing has only worsened the problem. This book examines in detail the various causes of the problem faced by the people vis a vis the preferences and the mindset of the Sri Lankan people, the trends in the attitudes and the life styles of the people and the solutions proposed by the Government. The book justifies why, in situations like this, the concept of High Rise housing (Condominium) could be considered as an alternative for housing all the classes in the city. The research studies three cases of Condominium apartments, one, provided by the government for the low income group and two apartment complexes developed by private sector investors the upper classes of the society. These cases provide an insight into the problem and the rationale for adopting the concept of Condominium Housing as a solution.
