LIVING WITH DISASTERS

Day by day we hear, see occurrences of natural disasters and it is almost impossible to avoid the occurrence of natural disasters even though we are rich in science and technology. Whether it is an earthquake, a landslide or a flood; mitigation of the damages due to most of the natural disasters is possible by practicing some simple measures. These measures are around our lives but we; people hardly practice them. One possible cause for that may be the unawareness of the possible safety measures. People usually do get stress when there is a natural disaster. In most of the cases they just do whatever or run wherever without thinking. However if we know the possible safety measures, we can be safe and we can help our neighbors do so. Author of this book has introduced some safe guidelines and willing to see a world without victims from natural disasters.

Upaka Sanjeewa Rathnayake graduated in Civil Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka as the best student in Engineering for 2006 followed by a Master in Engineering from Hokkaido University, Japan in 2009. His main research interests are in hydrology and hydraulics, water resource developments and sustainable development.
