Loop quantum cosmology (LQC) is a finite, symmetry reduced model of loop quantum gravity, which predicts a quantum bridge between contracting and expanding cosmological branches. Study of LQC has led to many successes, including the emergence of a possible mechanism for cosmic inflation, resolution of gravitational singularities as well as development of effective, semi-classical Hamiltonians. This subfield was originally started by Martin Bojowald and Abhay Ashtekar at the Institute for Gravitational Physics and Geometry at Penn State and they continue to lead the research, but now there are many more active researchers working on various different aspects of the subject.
