They constitute Kenya's second largest ethnic group, numbering about 5.4 million people, or 14% of the nation's total population of 38.5 million. Luhya culture richly incorporates traditional customary practices from past generations and modern practices as observed in cultural events like circumcision, harvest festivals, bull fighting, and Luhya Weddings .
