The western terminus of the 3.98 mile-long road is in Sheridan Township at exit 119 off I-94. The eastern terminus is a junction with BL I-94 in the city of Albion. The entire road is within Calhoun County. Although M-199 is nominally a "child" route of M-99, which also passes through Albion, the two routes do not officially connect. M-99 enters Albion from the south on Superior St. and turns to the east at the intersection with Michigan Ave. in downtown, while M-199 ends a few blocks northwest of that point.
