Owen's Larch Looper or Owen's Angle Moth (Macaria oweni) is a moth of the Geometridae family. It is found from Newfoundland to west-central Alberta, south in the east to northern New England. The wingspan is about 23 mm. Adults are on wing from June to mid July in Alberta. There is probably one generation per year. The larvae feed on Larix laricina. A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth (about ten times the number of species of butterfly), with thousands of species yet to be described.
