Malaria - A Major Public Health Problem In India
Details
Malaria is an infectious communicable disease transmitted by the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito. An estimated 3.3 billion people - half of the world's population are at risk of malaria. With around 300 million cases and 2 million deaths annually, malaria has emerged as a global problem. A cross-sectional questionnaire based observational study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Mumbai, India to find out the association between malarial transmission and housing conditions like overcrowding, ventilation, water storage and waste disposal. The knowledge, attitude and practices of the people was also assessed in this study which has given us an idea of our shortcomings and the way ahead. This book provides useful information regarding the signs, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of malaria. The study should help shed some light on the knowledge gaps that exist in society and simple preventive methods that can be used to stop the transmission of this deadly disease. This book will be especially useful to medical interns, doctors, professionals, people travelling to malarial endemic areas and anyone else who may want to expand their knowledge about malaria.
