Male infertility and its sexual and social affects on men
Details
It is estimated that one in six couples will have trouble conceiving after having intercourse without contraception for twelve months consecutively. For approximately a third of those couples, the impediment to conceive is due to male factor infertility. This studies aim was to investigate infertile men's experiences of the diagnosis of infertility and how it affected them emotionally, sexually and socially. The study was pilot study. The method of semi-structured face-to-face interviews was employed to gather data. Six infertile Icelandic men were recruited by purposive sampling. All participants were affected in some manner by the experience of infertility yet the impact it had on their life differed in magnitude. Infertility was experienced as a life-changing event affecting every aspect of the individual's relationship to himself and to others.
