Malocclusion and Periodontal health

Title: Malocclusion and Periodontal healthAim & Objective: The aim of this systematic review was to find out the available evidence which correlates the relationship between malocclusion and periodontal disease.Methodology: Literature search was conducted using an electronic search and a hand search. Databases were searched for the past 10 years of publications, including: clinical human studies either randomized or not, cohort studies, case control studies and animal research. Exclusion criteria were any meta-analysis, review articles as well as any comment or unpublished data. After screening of the records, 15 articles were considered relevant to the topic to find out the correlation between the two.Results: Out of the 15 articles, 12 studies identified a positive association between malocclusion and periodontal disease whereas 3 studies did not find any detrimental effect of malocclusion on periodontal health.
