MANAGING DAMS AND BARRAGES SAFETY

Dams and Barrages play a pivotal role in the economic development of a country. Generally, dams/ barrages' safety programs are managed by a regulatory authority that establishes standards for design, construction, monitoring, reporting & maintenance. Any deficiencies & lapses in the operation & management of dams may result in catastrophic events resulting in colossal loss of property as well as lives. Authorizing legislations need to be kept simple so that program specifics can be detailed within administrative rules and regulations thereby inducing program flexibility. This book is aimed at to include glossary of Dams/Barrages Safety Management Systems tailored to suite local conditions of different countries around the globe; and a model law of regulatory framework for developing countries. The work is valuable for a broad range of users, from field engineers to water managers at higher levels. It can be used as planning tool and/or to assist in making management decisions, whether strategic, tactical, or operational for developing dams/barrages' safety and/or hydropower strategies for a variety of objectives and applications.
