This book examines the influence the current economic climate- driven by the extraction of non-renewable resources currentlyunderway in the Northwest Territories - is having on adulteducation policy and program development. A qualitative methodologyinvolving open-ended interviews was chosen to better understandlocal realities of labour market influenced educational policy andits implications on policy process and practice. By gatheringperceptions from those given authority and responsibility fordeveloping policy on behalf of northerners, and also from thoseaffected by such policies, findings suggest cooptation of adulteducation by market forces is occurring despite increased localautonomy through recent aboriginal self-governance initiatives.Implications for community sustainability and governance areexamined within this context.
