This work is a contribution to have a didactic material that focuses on the topics contained in the syllabus of the learning unit of Materials Science and Testing that is taught in the Graduate Studies and Research Section (SEPI) of the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (ESIME) Azcapotzalco Unit of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), Mexico.The fundamental concepts for understanding and developing the basics of the mentioned learning unit are presented, as a source of support for the study and analysis of the topics dealt with, which are presented in a wide diversity of ferrous and non-ferrous materials present in the industrial sector. In addition, a large number of the concepts presented are accompanied by examples applied or related to the mechanical engineering area. Furthermore, it is considered that the development of texts such as the present one provides a satisfactory and useful method to solve problems that may be encountered in various industrial sectors.
