Media as Enabler of Post-Election Crisis in Nigeria

The role of the media in any society can never be underrated, media are involved in bolt and nuts in the affairs of the society and Nigeria is not, and will never be an exception. Nigeria and Nigerians heavily depend on the media for decision making on daily basis, for education to improve their standard of living, for entertainment to bail themselves from boredom and for information to stay in touch with the trends in the world. Similarly, during elections, people rely on the media to exercise their franchise, choose the right candidates to vote for and hold them accountable by their words. This paper explained the roles of the media in our society, the concept of election, conflict and how the deviation from these roles result in post- election conflict as well as what the media should do to prevent post-election conflict in Nigeria.
