Medical Emergencies in Pediatric Dentistry

Emergency is a condition that warrants immediate attention by an expert. This situation is an unexpected one, under pressure circumstances, and thus calls for urgent treatment as it can be life-threatening. They can happen to anyone - a patient, doctor, member of the office staff, or person who is merely accompanying a patient. Many emergencies can be definitely avoided by simple preventive measures like a careful medical history, general physical examination regarding the patient's health status, and proper preoperative preparation. Although the occurrence of life-threatening emergencies in dental offices is infrequent, a number of factors exist today that can increase the likelihood of such incidents. This includes - therapeutic advances in the medical profession, the growing trend towards longer dental appointments, and the increased use and administration of drugs in dentistry. Immense precision and promptness are required to handle any such emergency. This book is an effort to look into similar emergencies that are commonly encountered in a dental office and treatment modalities to in turn treat them, especially in children.
