Medical Model Influence in Counseling Psychology
Details
The practice of counseling and psychotherapy is
influenced by a number of ideologies and paradigms.
Among these, the influence of the medical model is
particularly salient. The ideology of the medical
field impacts the theory, research, and practice of
Counseling Psychology and its influence deserves
close examination. The few academic endeavors in
this area that have been conducted are descriptive
and basic in nature. This book contributes richness
and depth to conversations about medical model
influence, and contains results and analysis of a
qualitative study that targeted counseling
psychology training directors, who are at the
intersection of science and practice within the
field. The themes that emerged from this study
should be useful to students and professionals in
counseling psychology, including those who are
involved with training the next generation of
psychologists.
