Ménière's is one of 43 diseases designated by the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare as intractable: its causes are unknown and its treatment not yet definitively established. The chairman of the research committee founded by the Ministry has edited reports of the committee's investigations. Their latest findings offer encouragement to practicing physicians confronted with the disease.
