Mesh Generation and Multi-block Algorithm for Complex Geometries

Practical fluid flows are often associated with
complex physical domains. Simulating such fluid flows
accurately and efficiently remains a challenge in the
Computational Fluid Dynamics. In doing so, the
computational mesh must be able to properly represent
the physical domain and be organized in an efficient
way. This book describes the author s research on the
development of mesh generation and multi-block
algorithm for 2D numerical models in geometrically
complex domains. Two improved RL elliptic generation
systems were developed by using the contribution
factors to achieve the mesh density control and the
global balance of mesh orthogonality and smoothness.
A 2D structured mesh generator--the CCHE-MESH has
been developed (free at
http://www.ncche.olemiss.edu/software/downloads). A
multi-block algorithm based on a consistent
interpolation method along with a Lagrangian
interpolation method was also developed. It is
capable of maintaining both mass balance and momentum
balance at the block interfaces. The proposed mesh
generation techniques and multi-block algorithm were
successfully applied to complex domains and produced
satisfactory results.
