With the exponential rise of wireless devices, the electromagnetic interference (EMI) phenomenon affects the performance of these devices. Hence, it is critical to investigate various approaches to hinder the EMI effects. One of the most popular techniques to reduce EMI is to design and deploy microwave absorbers.

This book presents the design requirements of novel electromagnetic wave shielding materials for modern commercial devices. A detailed in-depth analysis of the material synthesis with numerous practical case studies are presented in this book. The principles of microwave characterization of these materials are also explored. The definitions and procedural methods to characterize the shielding effectiveness are also presented. The practical use of polymer nanocomposite prepared by MWCNT, SWCNT, nanofibers, graphene and various ferrites in the polymer matrix is discussed. Practical use-case scenarios of design processes of various polymers along with general nanomaterials, carbon nanomaterials, inorganic magnetic nanoparticles, are also investigated. Lastly, alternate shielding methods are reported in the book.

Prof. Shiban K Koul is an Honorary Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. His research interests include RF MEMS, high-frequency wireless communication, microwave engineering, microwave passive and active circuits, device modeling, millimeter-wave IC design, and reconfigurable microwave circuits including antennas. He has authored/co-authored 645 research Papers, 26 state-of-the-art books, 4 book chapters, and 2 e-books. He holds 26 patents, 6 copyrights, and one Trademark. He has guided 31 Ph.D. theses and more than 120 master's theses. He is Life Fellow of IEEE and Fellow of INAE and IETE. He is Chief Editor of IETE Journal of Research. He served as Distinguished Microwave Lecturer of IEEE MTT-S for the period 2012-2014. Currently he is serving as Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE EMC-S for the period 2024-2025. He is Recipient of numerous awards including IEEE MTT Society Distinguished Educator Award (2014); Teaching Excellence Award (2012) from IIT Delhi, and Lifetime Achievement Award from IETE, India (2023).

Dr. M. Praveen received his undergraduate degree in industrial chemistry in the year 2007 from Sahyadri Science College, Shivamogga. He received his master's degree in industrial chemistry (2010) and M.Tech. in nanotechnology (2012) from Kuvempu University, Shivamogga. He worked as Assistant Professor in affiliated colleges of Visvesvaraya Technological University from 2013 to 2017. He joined the Department of Chemistry, Ramaiah Institute of Technology, as Ph.D. Student in 2013 and defended his thesis in 2023. He worked as Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in DST-sponsored project on Developing intumescent flame retardants polymer composite. He also worked as Research Associate in a CSIR project for Developing dental restorative polymer nanocomposites at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI-SRC), Bangalore, from 2017 to 2021. In 2021, Praveen joined the Centre for Advanced Materials Technology at MS Ramaiah Institute of Technology, a Centre of Excellence, where he continued his research until 2024. He is currently working as an application Scientist at Atsbia Innovation and Ad-nano technology Pvt. Ltd in Shimoga, Karnataka.

Dr. Karthikeya G. S received his undergraduate degree in electronics and communication engineering, with distinction, in the year 2010 from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum. He received his master's degree, with distinction, in microwave engineering from University of Kerala in 2012. He worked as Assistant Professor in affiliated colleges of Visvesvaraya Technological University from 2013 to 2016, where he established the Antenna Architects' lab. He joined the Centre for applied Research in Electronics (CARE), IIT Delhi, as Ph.D. Student in 2017 and defended his thesis in 2019. He worked as Project Scientist at Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) in association with Synergy Microwave Corporation from 2019 to 2021. From 2021 to 2022 he served as Assistant Professor at the Centre for Antennas and Radio Frequency Systems (CARFS), Ramaiah Institute of Technology. Currently he is working as Assistant Professor in BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore. He serves as a research consultant to Liveon Technolabs, Alpha Design Technologies, and Space Pulse Techno solutions Pvt Ltd. He received the Dr. N Vasudevan Nair Memorial Award (2011) and the Research Excellence Travel Award (2019).
