Migrant Students Amid Cultural Differences: A Case Study
Details
Every year, students from northeastern states of India come to Chandigarh for pursuing higher education. In Chandigarh, Manipuri students constitute the largest number of students from the eight northeastern states. Manipuri students in Chandigarh are very different from the receiving locals, and the host society is also different from Manipuri society in terms of racial composition, language, food habits, climatic conditions, culture, etc. As migrant and minority students in a new socio-cultural environment and physical surrounding of this beautiful planned city, they are likely to face several problems. In this backdrop, this study identifies all sorts of problems face by these students and analyses the mechanisms used by them to cope with those problems.
