Mizoram in Transition, A Study of Socio-Political Movements(1947-1986)

There is a growing body of literature on Mizoram, but unfortunately there has not been any study on them from the perspective of social movement, and this book is a modest attempt by the author, to bridge this gap. The book deals with the detailed study of Socio- Political movements in the Mizo Hills, situated in the North Eastern part of India, culminating in the present state of Mizoram. In this book, the details regarding the Mizos, about how they organized themselves, and resolved the socio political issues and the natural causes like the famines that confronted them are clearly presented. The objective of the present book,is to reveal the advent of modernity in Mizoram, the fight of the common Mizo people against chieftainship, the famine which threatened the very existence of human life in Mizoram, and the spirit of self-determination of the people of Mizoram during the period of insurgency, which were the important events which made the Mizos strong and move ahead, thereby contributing significantly to the process culminating in the present state of Mizoram.

Dr.Milly Bhattacharjee got her Ph.D from the University of Hyderabad, India, in the year 2003. Her thesis dealt with Socio-Political movements in Mizoram,a state in the North-Eastern part of India.The thesis covered the period from the year 1947 to1986.Currently, She is an independent researcher, in Social Science, based in Hyderabad, India.
