Details

This interdisciplinary collection explores what mobility meant, and still means, in the specific contexts of Soviet and East European socialist and post-socialist societies. Together the chapters consider diverse practices of mobility and their different contexts of power, resistance and inequality.

The scope of the book is broad, discussing both physical mobilities and their representations cultural meanings attached to moving in space or inability to do so. The volume is worth reading as an important addition to the scholarship on mobilities as well as to the studies of socialist and post-socialist societies. It deals with under-researched issues like gender and ethnicity. (Mariusz Jastrzb, The Journal of Transport History, Vol. 38 (2), 2018)
