Morphological Characteristics and Molecular Study of Trametes species

Identification of members of the genus Trametes to its species level is still unsettled mainly due to the problem of separation of the species based on morphological characteristics. In the present study, sequenced data generated from 26 Trametes species collected from Nigeria and designated VO1 to VO26, were analysed in order to identify the specimens to species level. The research is to perform a molecular study on Trametes species collected from Nigeria using data from the ribosomal marker (ITS) and protein-coding genes (RPB1, RPB2, TEF1) and to examine and discuss the taxonomic and nomenclatural implications of the results.
